Gold Coast University Hospital Showcase

Matthew Malt and the Spinal Cord Injury Liaison Service at Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) recently hosted an engaging showcase dedicated to highlighting the realities and possibilities of living with a spinal cord injury (SCI).

The event brought together community members with lived experience, healthcare professionals, SCI researchers, community organisations, and specialist equipment suppliers for a dynamic day of hands-on demonstrations, education, and networking.

Attendees had the opportunity to explore a wide range of interactive displays and cutting-edge technology, including:

  • Adaptive Sports & Recreation: demonstrations from Roller Blaze Wheelchair Basketball and Skate Advantage, alongside displays of creative artwork.

  • Mobility & Beach Access: showcase of accessible beach equipment and the latest advancements in power-mobility technology.

  • Community Connection: representation from key support networks, including Sailability, Buildcare, the Gold Coast beach-access team, the Trauma Survivors Network, Power Mobility, Molmike Medical, CareMatch, and Making Strides.

At the event, Perry Cross officially launched SIP Week 2026, rallying support for spinal cord injury awareness and research funding and Professor James St John gave everyone an update on the groundbreaking clinical trials at Griffith University.

Thank you to all the researchers from Griffith University, PCSRF Ambassadors, exhibitors, and members of the local spinal cord injury community who came together to make the day a resounding success!
