Special thanks to the Perrigo Company Charitable Foundation for their generous donation of $14,000 recently. The Perrigo Foundation’s mission is an extension of the company’s vision to make lives better in the communities they serve. Established in August 2000 as the philanthropic arm of Perrigo Company plc, the Foundation supports initiatives that promote investments in healthcare, education, and support services.
Perrigo Australia’s employees were all encouraged to nominate a charity they believed the Company should support together with a brief explanation of why that charity is suitable. The Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation was nominated by Janelle Ralph to be a recipient of this generous initiative.
Janelle explained her nomination:
“On 9 December 2017, my son Steve – aged 25 – suffered a severe spinal injury, fracturing his C4 vertebrae in a very simple recreational accident, swimming in a pool and hitting his head, causing the injury. The months following this were uncertain and incredibly tough. Our whole world had been turned upside down. So much changes in an instant. After the initial shock of the injury wore off, reality began to sink in. Steve started looking for ways to contribute to the cause of finding a cure for this unfair and devastating injury. He heard about the amazing Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation and their support of the Spinal Injury Project at Griffith University. Supporting this project could help make spinal injury a thing of the past.”
Every day in Australia one life is changed forever by spinal cord injury. Unfortunately pool accidents are all too common and this summer we are encouraging everyone to take care, be aware and stay safe through our Summer Safety Campaign.
